Why saving a GIF from X gives you a video
When someone posts a GIF, X re-encodes it as a silent, looping MP4. It looks the same in the feed, but it isn't a GIF any more, so most “GIF downloaders” hand you that MP4.
- MP4, what X stores. Tiny and sharp, but chat apps treat it as a video. It won't auto-loop in Slack, can't go in a GIF picker, and shows up as a video in Photos.
- .gif, what you get here. Loops everywhere, pastes like any other GIF and plays in Photos and iMessage. It's bigger, so keep it short or pick a smaller size.

How do I download a GIF from Twitter (X)?
Copy the post's link (Share, then Copy link), paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Make GIF. When it's ready, tap Save to Photos on a phone or Download on a computer.
Why does Twitter save GIFs as MP4 videos?
X converts every GIF to a short looping MP4 when it's posted, because video is far smaller. That's why saving it normally gets you a video that won't paste into apps as a GIF. This tool turns it back into a real .gif file.
How do I save a Twitter GIF on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, paste the link, press Make GIF, then tap Save to Photos and choose Save Image. The GIF appears in Photos, in the Animated album, and keeps moving when you send it.
Can I turn a Twitter video into a GIF?

Why is my GIF file so big?
GIF stores every frame as a separate 256-colour picture, so it's much heavier than video. Pick a smaller size or a shorter clip. Discord's free upload limit is 10 MB, and the tool warns you when a GIF is over it.
Is anything uploaded to your servers?
No. We only look up the post. The video downloads straight from X to your browser and the GIF is made on your device.
Why can't it find my GIF?
The post is probably from a private account, age-restricted, or deleted. None of those are visible without logging in to X.
